«Chaste tree (Vitex agnus castus). Properties: antispasmodic, rebalancing the parasympathetic nervous system general and genital sedative.
Indications: palpitations, pain in the solar plexus, dizziness, intestinal spasms, insomnia, genital erethism» [1]

« Chaste tree. Main activities: antispasmodic and tonic; progestinic and anti-oestrogenic.
Therapeutic use: menorrhagia and metrorrhagia, pre-menstrual syndrome, nervous tension, pelvic pain, intestinal spasms, juvenile acne. It is involved in the production of prolactin, a hormone that, promoting lactation and corpus luteum formation, plays an essential role in the balance of the menstrual cycle. Thus, a hormonal production by the corpus luteum would be fostered, resulting in a deviation of the oestrogen-progestin balance towards the progestinic activity.… Indicated in painful menstruation.
It inhibits the secretion of serum prolactin in women with premenstrual mastodynia (breast pain), thus helping to improve symptoms related to premenstrual syndrome (irritability, water retention, insatiable hunger and cramps). These symptoms, indeed, would be partly attributed to a hyperprolactinemia.
Useful in female infertility related to menstruation disorders (high prolactin in the blood), in case of amenorrhoea or disappearance of menstruation or failure of the corpus luteum (i.e. progesterone). A treatment of 3-6 months, …effective in the treatment of mastalgia, is recommended.
The treatment should last at least 3 months » [2].

«Chaste tree. Action: Progestinic, anti-oestrogenic, antiprolactinemic, antispasmodic, dopamine-agonist [promotes the production of dopamine; Parkinson's disease].… Chaste tree stimulates luteal development, correcting any progestin deficiency, through direct dopamine action on the pituitary gland (hypohpysis), which inhibits prolactin, promotes ovulation and regulates the menstrual cycle.
Generally speaking, it is indicated for any pre-menstrual exacerbation….
Extracts of Chaste tree improve acne, normalising the levels of sex hormones, including follicle-stimulating hormone[FSH] and luteinising hormone [L.H.]. It has also given good results in the treatment of fibromatous uterus»[3].
